Stamfordham Velo is a cycling organisation based
in a small village about 13 miles north west of Newcastle upon
Tyne. The area around Stamfordham is excellent cycling country
and the Reviers Long Distance Cycle route passes through the
viillage.
Stamfordham was recently the
venue for the Beaumont Trophy the climax of the Northern Rock
Cyclone
The Beaumont Trophy is an
established race of 56 years and has been won by many famous riders.
In 2007 it was a Premier calendar event. The event used a circuit
based on Stamfordham which included the climb of the Ryals. The
riders climbed this hill 3 times before going onto the smaller
finishing circuit of 3 laps. Once each lap there was a Hot Spot
sprint in Stamfordham plus primes on each of 3 ascents of the
Ryals.
Riders in the
Beaumont Trophy pass through Stamfordham Velo Country
Stamfordham Velo
has carried out extensive research into the use of fermented malt
based sports drinks at their state of the art facility within
the village and recently during a field trip over four days along
the Coast and Castles cycle path.
In September 2006 research
was carried out along the Coast to Coast cycle route and in
April 2007 Stamfordham Velo extended it's research profile with an
overseas trip to the Holland.
On this site we hope
to share with you some our local rides and report on our trips
further afield in a very self indulgent "look at us we got our own
website sort of way."
