So just who are Stamfordham
Velo ?
This is an excellent question.
Well done for asking it.
History
of Stamfordham Velo
The
seeds of the present organisation were first sown in 1996 when a
group of men from the Stamfordham area, some of whom even then were
old enough to know better, decided to cycle the relatively new Coast
2 Coast cycle route. Despite a successful and enjoyable trip the
organisation lay dormant until a 10th anniversary C2C reunion ride
was suggested.
Three of the 1996 group, whose sanity
levels had not increased with age, were joined by a further 5
willing victims and a rigorous programme of training rides was
undertaken in preparation for September 06 attempt on the C2C (see
report in rides further afield section).
It was during the initial training
period that members of the group found that they shared a
common predilection for the use of fermented malt based sports
drinks and this, plus the need to try stave off the effects of
advancing years, has helped Stamfordham Velo to continue to
develop.
A growing membership, a healthy
programme of local and long distance rides and a full social
programme mean the "the Velo" can now claim to be the foremost
leisure cycling organisation in Stamfordham.
